Marching refers to the organized, uniformed, steady and rhythmic walking forward, usually associated with military troops. Marching is often performed to march music, and often associated military parades. Marching is part of basic training in the military in most countries. In most cases, marching uses a system of drill commands. Learning to march by obeying commands is considered a form of discipline. While marching, individuals must maintain their dress, cover, interval, and distance (DCID):
In Northern Ireland marching is a major part of the culture, with hundreds of marches occurring annually. These are usually organized by groups such as the Orange Order, which provide most of the participants. Music is provided by marching bands including silver bands, flute bands and others. Marching is often seen as a symbol of control over a particular area, and marching is often seen as a sectarian activity. From Wikipedia under the

I also heard some types of instruments damage your hearing more than others. In high school, I plan to play the clarinet or bassoon in concert band, and the clarinet in marching band. Asked by Rukario Lucario - Wed Dec 5 22:13:50 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. Be careful - many of the answers here are incorrect!! You can damage your hearing. High school marching bands hold numerous rehearsals indoors and, even in a large band room, will affect your hearing. I'm a professional clarinetist and use Etymotic ear plugs - these are designed for musicians. They are more advanced than generic ear plugs from the drugstore and the cost is affordable - $10. For an extra buck, you can have a cord connect the two plugs behind your head. When you're not using the plugs, they rest on your shoulders. Use now and be thankful later. Take it step by step. First look for colleges with dental schools or whatever you need. Then narrow the selection down by colleges you're willing to attend by location. Then you can look into all the little stuff. The college search on collegeboard.com helps you narrow down colleges based on whatever criteria you specify. Plus, it's not confusing and the site is attractive (laid out well, easy to navigate, etc). Answered by fate.obscure - Wed Jan 23 19:21:36 2008 Buying a plastic clarinet for marching band?
Q. I have a Buffet E11 clarinet and I absolutey love it. Next year I'm going to be in marching band, and I really don't want to use my wooden clarinet. That being said, are there any relatively cheap but still good quality plastic clarinets that one would use for marching? I'm not looking for anything amazing but I still want a decent sound. Any help is appreciated. :) Asked by Amanda. - Mon Feb 18 17:06:36 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Oh, there are tons of used resonite clarinets out there. And I applaud you for wanting to save your Buffet. Look on Or go to a local pawn shop. Or browse ebay. You should be able to pick one up for under $100. Of course you know that if you buy from the goowill online auction, you should have cash in reserve for a total re-pad job. My own preferred brand is Bundy (among plastics that it, of course what I'd have if I were a virtuoso is a Buffet R13); other brands to consider would include Vito and Normandy by Leblanc--my current instrument is a Normady plateau system b/c nerve damage to my left hand makes open holes impossible.
