A. For many of those in support of Rebellion the issue was clear. Self Government, why defer to a power thousands of miles, months away across Atlantic Ocean. It was obvious to many Colonist that their fellow men/women were well capable of managing their own affairs. Dependent upon local newspapers for opinions & views a colonist would read about corruption among the Lords of Parliament, their extravegent lifestyles, their debaucheries & excesses, so why pay taes to support a corrupr regime? And quite a few Colonist were sincerely excited about creating a new nation, they viewed themselves as Americans, they were eager to throw of the title of Colonist, they had moved beyond that stage, they were a New Nation and owed nothing to Britain… [cont.]
