I am trying to find who remade "These are Days". It was originally done by 10,000 Maniacs. Who remade it?
Q. I have a version that was sung by a female vocalist, not Natalie Merchant from 10,000 Maniacs. I have looked everywhere online and can only find the original version.

I'm writing a book and I want to use quotes from a 10,000 Maniacs?
Q. song. If I give them the credit, could I get into any trouble? Should I contact them (I have no clue how) and ask them? I don't want to be sued but I see lots of quotes in books with the authors name. Can you help?
Asked by Stephen W - Tue Mar 4 09:36:00 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you are going to profit from it, you need their expressed, written permission. A website that claims to be their internet home says to contact the band at: RSeekings@maniacs.com However, you would definetly want to contact them via snail mail to get your permission. You can find forms for the permissions at any number of lawyer sites online, but I would advise you to find a lawyer to draft the permissions to avoid any ambiguity in meaning or extraneous wording that might be detrimental to you later on.

Natalie Merchant or 10,000 Maniacs song ?
Q. This sounds crazy , but a couple of years ago I heard this song in a department store . It sounded like Natalie Merchant singing but I could never find out what the song is named. I believe there are the words "I 'll wear your ring" in the song but more importantly there is guitar playing using a "Wow Wow" pedal throughout the song. Any ideas ?

A. I think you are referring to 'Anniversary Song' by the Cowboy Junkies. I can see the similarities to Natalie on this track and I think that's the one.

For all those who write their own music, who are your greatest musical inspirations?
Q. My influences: Michelle Branch, John Mayer, Christ Tomlin, Michael W. SMith, Train, 10,000 maniacs, Lifehouse, Dan Hill, Tori Amos, Barry Manilow, Casting Crowns, Ryan Cabrera, Air Supply and Dashboard Confessional. I model my overall music style after guitarists like Michelle Branch and John Mayer, but since the piano is the most dominant instrument in most of my songs, I also owe credit to famed pianists like Barry Manilow and Tori Amos..
Asked by Derik Kai - Tue Sep 26 01:24:15 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Personally, I like to write classical music. My favourite musicians are Vivaldi and Clementi and a little bit of Chopin so I suppose that my music is somewhat influenced by thos great composers. I write mainly for the piano but sometimes I'll play the melody on the violin. Also I really like the theme music for alot of movies but I don't think that influences me much.
