How do I judge 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water for my tomato plants?
Q. I've read that my tomato plants need 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water every week. How do I measure this? I live in So Cal so the only water these plants get is the water I put on them. I want to make sure I'm not over watering.
Asked by WESLEY V - Thu Jun 21 14:21:01 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's not necessary to try and measure the water amount. Just give them a good drink once a week and you will be fine. They are not that finicky. They will let you know if you've given them too much by splitting the fruit. If that happens just cut back on the amount of water you give them.

How do I calculate 1/3 cup cooked pasta from uncooked?
Q. I want 1/3 cup cooked elbow macaroni. I can't figure out how much uncooked elbow macaroni to use. 1/3 cup equals one starch. I want to make a salad with fruit, vegetables, low fat mayo and artificial sweetener. The box of uncooked elbow macaroni says that 1/2 cup uncooked is 56 grams. My diet calls for 1/3 cup cooked and doesn't give it in grams. I'm terrible at math, and can't figure out how to calculate this. I've searched for conversion tables, but my search didn't produce anything. Can someone steer me in the right direction?

A. Pasta and rice both, depending on variety, absorb more or less two times their weight in water when they are cooked, in other words they approximately treble in volume. So for 1/3 cup cooked measure you need c1/9 cup (about two tablespoonfuls) dry. This is impractical to measure, especially with shapes like elbow which which can't be levelled smoothly as rice can. If I have calculated correctly, you need 12.5 grams of dry pasta. That's hardly worth cooking. It would be easier to cook a weighed amount, say 100g to make calculations easy, measure it when cooked (I would guess it comes to a bit under three cups), keep the result on file and use up the leftover macaroni in other recipes in the near future. Generally, it is more… [cont.]

Q. My 12 month old has miniature feet--size 1 1/2 or 2. The problem is either that toddler shoes don't come in this size or if they do, they are for non-walking infants. What size shoe does your 1 year old wear and where do I find size 2 walking shoes?

A. wow i thought i was the only one with truely little feet in the house, lol. honestly walmart does have a good shoe that comes in a size 2. it's a flexible sole and very sturdy for wobbling feet. not like the crib shoes you find in other stores for much more money. we even looked into nike's and found the soles on this small of shoe did not bend at all, making walking difficult for my daughter. she wore her walmart shoes just fine until she finally grew into a size 3 and 4. which was about 16 months. she's 2 now and still only wears a size 4-5, possibly a 6 depending on who makes them. also converse makes a size 2, you can order it online, or i found ebay to be a great place for little feet. most kids are not walking in a size 2- [cont.]

How many blocks is 1 mile in california?
Q. I'm planning to run around the same block over and over for about 1 or 2 miles but I need to know how many blocks is 1 mile in southern california. how would i use mapquest?
Asked by christian - Sat May 9 13:14:50 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You'd indeed need to find your particular block and calculate it. If you can get someone to drive it in a car, you can use the odometer to estimate. Keep in mind if they're on the road and you're on an inside loop on the sidewalk, you're running a little shorter than the car measures. You can go to a mapping service like Mapquest and keep entering addresses like you would for directions, or in some places you can drag markers around on a route, and you can see what it says distances are.

How do I convert an absolute error of 0 1 to percentage error?
Q. If I have a range of values from -1 to 1 as my error, how can I change this into a percentage error? As in, for 5 1, it would be 5 0.2% What should I do in this case (1/0 , cannot divide by zero) Oops, yeah sorry, 20%.

A. A common approach to this sort of problem is to use the statistical standard deviation as a measure of data spread. This approach assumes that the errors are a random spread. The mean of the data is given by: - x(mean) = x1 + x2 + x3 + ... + xn ...___ ...n Where each of the x's are measured data points for the n recorded measurements. The standard deviation is given by: - = ( (xi - x(mean))/(n-1)) Where means the sum of and the xi's are the individual data points. However, with systematic errors e1, e2, ... en (those errors due to calculations or measuring procedures). The resultant error E is given by: - E = (e1 + e2 + e3 + ... + en ) This resultant error may be expressed as a percentage + or - error on the mean… [cont.]

What is the probability that at least 1 of 2 will occur?
Q. I am doing a problem for statistics class that deals with the following question: What is the probability that at least 1 of 2 randomly selected batteries will be rejected by plan A? I have already determined that the probability of 1 battery being rejected is 2.5%, so would would it be for at least 1 of 2? Would you just to 2.5%^2, or is there a different procedure for "at least"? Thanks. @SV... So basically I would add the probability of those two instances? The probability of 1 would be 2.5%, and the probability of 2 would be 2.5%^2, so the answer would come out to: 8.75% Is this correct? I recommend everyone check out this answer, it helped me the most, especially zantu3's solution:
Asked by tdude51 - Wed Oct 3 18:33:51 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The probability that at least one is rejected is: Pr[first is rejected] + Pr[second is rejected] - Pr[both are rejected] 0.025 + 0.025 - 0.025^2 = 0.049375 = 4.9375% The reason we have to subtract off Pr[both are rejected] is because it is counted in Pr[first is rejected] and in Pr[second is rejected].

I saw that neon tetras were small and generally swim in groups. I thought it would be a cool idea to get like 5 or so tetras. But now im told that a 1 gallon tank should have only 1 fish. When someone is diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, the doctor uses what are called specifiers to give more information about the patient s current condition. Specifiers describe the mood episode and severity of the illness that the patient is experiencing. If the person most recently experienced a hypomanic episode, often no further specifiers are given. Hypomania is by definition, a mild manic episode with no psychotic features. Therefore, it would be redundant to specify the severity of the symptoms and the presence of psychotic features. A. No, you can't. If you find someone who doesn't care and will move it for you anyway - believe me, there are plenty - the state will inspect the home after setup and will not approve it. What is the probability that player 1 will win?
Q. Two players compete in a game of chance involving a pair of fair dice. Player 1 rolls first and wins if she rolls a 7. Player 2 wins if he rolls a 7 or a 12. Play alternates until a player wins. What is the probability that player 1 will win?
Asked by TNT - Thu May 28 15:34:25 2009 - - 4 Answers - 2 Comments
A. Ways to roll a 7: 1+6 6+1 2+5 5+2 3+4 4+3 so 6. 6/36 = 1/6% of a win when rolling. Player 2 has a 7/36 chance of winning, which is a little over 1/6%. On the first roll, player 1 has a chance of 1/6. The probability of winning will change, because his second roll depends if player 2 loses now. Chance of player 2 losing is 36-7/36 = 29/36. So we mulitply 1/6 * 29/36 for the probability of player 2 losing AND player 1 winning on the second roll. If you want to know the probability that player 1 will win a roll, it's 1/6. If you want the probability that player 1 will win the game, it will fluxuate because the events depend on the earlier rolls all losing.

I am not looking for study ideas nor techniques as I said, because I figured out what works for me. I am just trying to figure out a correct amount of courses to take.

How many mealworms would be in 1 cup of mealworms?
Q. I need to order some meal worms for a recipe. The recipe calls for 1 cup of meal worms. All the places I can find to order mealworms sell them by their exact COUNT, not by volume. (For example, you can buy 1,000 mealworms, or 5,000 mealworms, etc.) Does anyone know how many mealworms are in a cup? I need to know how many to order.

What is the difference between claiming 1 or 0 on taxes?
Q. I actually have two jobs. One full-time and one per-diem. One job I claim 0 and the other I claim 1 on my taxes. Is it okay to keep like that or should I claim 1 on both or 0 on both?

A. There are several factors to consider when determining how many exemptions you should claim on your W-4 federal witholding certificate. One is do you have a spouse and dependents to take care of. If you claim 0 exemptions, they will take MORE money out of your check each pay period which leaves you LESS money to take care of your family and houshold expenses. If you claim 1 or more exemptions, you should look at your total houshold income. If your total houshold income is relatively low depending upon how many people are in your household, then claiming 1 or 2 exemptions should not hurt you because you will have several exemptions to use to reduce your taxable income at tax time. By claiming more exemptions you will get more money in your… [cont.]
