Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses".

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts", music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art.

To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound." According to musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez, "the border between music and noise is always culturally defined—which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus.... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be, except that it is 'sound through time'."

How do you learn music theory?
Q. What I am looking for is a textbook to learn music theory but doesn't assume you don't know how to read music. I can read music but just want more information about chord structures and more advanced items than learning how to read music. Any ideas of a good textbook?

A. Well it's hard to say where you're at from what you describe. You say you can read, but not how well. Therefore, let me suggest Practical Beginning Theory, by Bruce Benward. I use it to teach students myself. In fact, I'm so darn nice that I'm going to include the link to the book on Amazon. The second one down is a very good copy ;)

How do I put music in a external hard drive and put the music on a different computer?
Q. I noticed that having music on my laptop takes up a lot of space! So I bought an external hard drive to store music and pictures. Except when I bring my external hard drive to my boyfriends house and put my music into his computer and take it out it doesn't stay on his computer for him to put on his iPod.

A. 1) Make a new folder somewhere on the computer, for examples sake I'll say the desktop. 2) Copy the songs you want to transfer over. 3) Paste the songs into that folder. Then add the songs into iTunes by going to add iTunes and going to the toolbar and find something along the lines of add songs by folder and choose the folder that has all your newly added songs.

How to move music from iPod to a new computer?
Q. Alright, my computer crashed and I basically lost all my music from iTunes. But I have my iPod Touch that still have my library. I also downloaded music from programs like Frostwire, so I can't transfer purchases. Is there any programs that can take the music from my iPod to transfer it to my iTunes? I know I did that before, but I just cannot think of the website.

A. The most convenient and secure way is to use an iPod-to-computer transfer program to help you. Many of my friends used Tansee iPod Transfer. It ensures proven fast, entire and safe transfer. The whole process needs just a few simple clicks. Simply install this program on your new computer. When you plug your iPod to the new computer, this program could display all songs and videos on the iPod instantly. You simply select all and click "Copy" button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer completely and safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library. It even has step-by-step guide on the whole process: Best luck!
